WELCOME TO BREEZY ACRES DESIGN
Welcome to Breezy Acres Design, where we believe that every home should be a haven, a place where you can truly be yourself, unwind, and find solace from the chaos of the outside world. I'm thrilled to have you join us on this journey of creating spaces that not only reflect your unique personality but also nourish your spirit.
As the founder of Breezy Acres Design, I've always had a deep appreciation for the transformative power of interior design. Growing up, I found joy in rearranging my bedroom furniture and experimenting with elementary drafting in games like The Sims. It didn’t take me long to understand the basic footprint of my parents’ Victorian farmhouse and I was forever asking to expand my bedroom window to allow for a window seat with a balcony. Or to turn the ground floor bedroom into a suite, complete with a patio accessed by French doors and a pass-through closet to the ground floor bathroom. Little did I know that this childhood passion would eventually blossom into a lifelong commitment to helping others create homes they love.
But beyond aesthetics, I've become drawn to the idea of home as a haven, a place where you can truly be yourself, surrounded by beauty and tranquility. This belief has grown and evolved over the years, influenced, in part, by my upbringing on a small acreage where time felt like it slowed and homes were not just places to live but extensions of one's identity and heritage.
It's this deep-rooted appreciation for the soul nourishing essence of home that inspired me to establish Breezy Acres Design. I wanted to create a space where people could reconnect with their roots, embrace intentional living, and experience the joy of surrounding themselves with objects and spaces that spark creativity and inspiration.
A Little Backstory . . .
Like so many others, 2020 changed my life forever. On the cusp of the new decade, I was excited for what I’d hoped would be a repeat of the Roaring Twenties with everyone living like Gatsby, throwing champagne parties. Instead, we experienced a pandemic, a global shutdown and on a personal note, I lost my mother.
Yet in the midst of my grief, a soft glimmer began to emerge. In the weeks following my mother’s passing, I could feel myself releasing the person I had been. Looking back now, I can see all the ways that version of myself died alongside my mother. I turned to my trusted therapist for guidance in processing and among the many things we discussed, she advised a career audit to help me rediscover my passion. So many things were realized during this transitional period of my life, but most importantly, it reawakened a yearning for design that I hadn’t realized had been hibernating for well over twenty years.
When I first started college in 2006, struggling to decide which career was for me, I bumped into a fellow student carrying a collection of interior mood boards. That moment felt like a light bulb popping on, showing me a new path. Interior Design! I could do that! I loved colors, textures, patterns & space planning. I was forever rearranging my childhood bedroom trying different layouts & DIY projects to create a space that felt like me. But just as quickly as the thought occurred, another voice sounded in my mind. You cannot be serious. Who can’t choose a paint color? There isn’t a career in that. And I, I listened that silly little voice for far too long. I chose instead to build a “sensible” career that kept me safe, secure, terribly unfulfilled & desperately seeking creative moments. That voice of fear only grew louder, caging me in, until, in August of 2020, decidedly choosing things for joy over sensibility, I registered for my first design class. Slowly, that scared voice began to fade away. I loved every moment of school. This, I thought, this was what I’d been searching for all those years ago.
Then, during an organizational cleanse of my home office in 2021, I discovered an autobiographical assignment I’d written at thirteen, where I’d recorded the dreams I held for my future:
“My goal is to be an interior designer & writer. When I rearrange my room, I can see where I want my stuff to go in my mind.”
It was there all along. I only needed to trust my inner child to rediscover my way.
A New Chapter . . .
Sometimes our paths aren’t a straight line. Sometimes we have to wander around a bit, dabbling in this or that before we discover what’s truly meant for us. Sometimes, we wander further down a path than we intended to because it’s easy and comfortable. Sometimes it takes a life-shattering moment to wake us from our stupor and make us question our surroundings before we make the turn or take the leap of faith.
In May 2023, I graduated with honors and the goal to establish my own interior design business, one that would allow me to create the life I imagined for myself, Breezy Acres Design was born.
At Breezy Acres Design, we don't just follow trends, we believe in crafting timeless spaces that stand the test of time. Inspired by European culture and an old-world sensibility, we blend modern innovation with classic functionality to create environments that soothe the soul and elevate the everyday.
“Our mission is simple: to help you create a home that reflects your true essence—one that invites you to slow down, savor the moment, and embrace your most authentic self. Whether you’re looking to redesign a single room or transform your entire home, we’re here to guide you every step of the way.”
My goal with the blog is to have a place to share design tips, showcase client projects, and provide you with inspiration & encouragement to build the life of your dreams.
